What a fucking terrible bit of driving. Driver should have swung wide on the street he was on, and then turned into his own side of the road.

Wow. The guy’s in his line of sight, he goes anyway, about to hit him and keeps going, and then slowly runs him over and keeps trying before finally stopping. What an idiot.

may not have been possible.

I’m pretty sure that the lorry driver somehow managed to miss the bike at first, and then it was in his blind spot. It’s a problem with his whole approach to the corner.

Nope, plenty of room. Might have had to wait a second for a clear space, but it doesn’t look that way to me.

just looked at the video , there is a bus stopped (at a stop i’m assuming) , other traffic going past it , so no room for truck to swing out.

This guy has the polar opposite reaction of an American who just had their bike crushed by another vehicle

Did you look at the streetview scene I linked? There’s plenty of space, no problem there. Might have to wait a second for the traffic passing the bus in the other direction to move, but I think there’s room even without that.

What a fucking terrible bit of driving. Driver should have swung wide on the street he was on, and then turned into his own side of the road.

Regardless if he could have turned wide before, the mistake he made was not stopping before fucking running over a parked motorcycle.

I think he was shocked enough not to say much, and that’s as rare here as in the US :)

It wasn’t parked. And it was in his blind spot, once he’d fucked things up by coming too tight round the corner.

I thought for sure he would go all football hooligan on him and kick the crap out of the driver. Or at least punt his dog off a bridge with the line “that’s how I roll”

It wasn’t parked.

Wrong choice of words.

The point I was trying to make is that he wasn’t moving.

It was a surprisingly calm response - hence my assumption it was shock. If you watch some of the other videos on that channel, the rider’s not exactly a shrinking violet.

Thing is, the bike was moving just before he hit it. Don’t forget, it’s a RHD lorry. The driver’s mistake was in not properly checking the road was clear, and/or turning in in such a way that he really needed to do so. Hitting something you can’t see is a symptom, not a cause.

Why does this kind of stuff get posted right after I buy a bike?

False. Never swing wide on the street you’re turning from, buttonhook on the street you’re turning on to. Straight from the CDL manual

Not over here:

Not sure I understand quite how button-hooking is supposed to work if the road isn’t wide enough. Unless I’ve misunderstood something it’s the classic error made by inexperienced drivers in longer vehicles than they’re used to, where they end up running the side of the lorry/bus/van/big car into a post on the corner or something, as the angle closes.

Seems like there’s different rules here to in the US - but I really don’t understand how the US way is supposed to work.

What’s important is clearly opening your fucking eyes :)

I think the idea is that traffoc around the start of the turn is still going fast whereas if you go into the oncoming lane at the end of the turn, traffic is more likely to be stopped at a light.

I’m not sure. I just made sure i did it right on my CDL test and I just take each turn as a special case. There are some serious blindspots in that front corner though

yes , and it shows there isn’t enough room.

one lane in the video is blocked b a stationary bus.

other vehicles going left to right are moving over the centre painted lines

result truck unable to swing out.

There wasn’t enough room on the road he was turning into, either. He could have waited a moment for the traffic to pass and the bus to move off.
